Saul Malek is a 26-year-old Dallas-based speaker and Texas Coalition on Problem Gambling Board member. Saul developed a gambling addiction as a college sophomore, losing money, time, relationships, and nearly his life. Since finding recovery in 2019, he has made it his mission to help others cope with life, find purpose, and keep away from maladaptive behavior such as compulsive gambling. Saul has used his experience to inspire and educate a generation inundated with invitations to gamble.
In this presentation, Saul focuses on self-acceptance, resilience, positive decision-making, and gambling harm prevention. He teaches how to detect secretive gambling behavior, strategies to make campuses and organizations safer from gambling harm (ex: doing away with high school casino night, clearly presenting the risks and possible consequences of participation in fantasy sports, March Madness, etc), and raise awareness and respect for the scope of gambling addiction, recognizing consequences beyond financial loss.
