Mental Health America of Greater Dallas Mourns the Loss of Dallas Cowboys Player Marshawn Kneeland
Organization urges open dialogue and action to support mental health and suicide prevention in the community.
Dallas, TX — November 7, 2025 — Mental Health America of Greater Dallas joins our community, the Dallas Cowboys organization, and fans everywhere in mourning the tragic loss of Marshawn Kneeland, who died by suicide earlier this week. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, teammates, and all those touched by his life and spirit. Mental Health America of Greater Dallas is the local affiliate of the national Mental Health America network, the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting mental health and preventing mental illness.
This heartbreaking event is a stark reminder that mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or status. Even those who seem strong and successful on the outside may be struggling silently.
“The loss of Marshawn Kneeland is a tragedy that underscores the urgent need for open dialogue, compassion, and action surrounding mental health,” said Pennie Beauchamp, Executive Director of Mental Health America of Greater Dallas. “No one should face their pain alone. As a community, we must remain vigilant, support one another, and remind everyone that help is always available.”
Mental Health America of Greater Dallas urges everyone to take this moment to check in with friends, family, teammates, and colleagues. Recognize the warning signs of emotional distress, listen without judgment, and connect those in need with appropriate resources.
If you or someone you know is struggling or thinking about suicide, help is available right now. Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, to be connected with trained counselors who can provide free and confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Mental Health America of Greater Dallas also encourages the community to join upcoming mental health trainings, including Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention workshops, to learn how to support those in crisis. Free and anonymous mental health screenings are available at mhadallas.org/findhelp.
“We can honor Marshawn’s memory by standing together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and by ensuring that every person knows that help and hope are within reach,” Beauchamp added.
Mental Health America of Greater Dallas remains committed to providing education, advocacy, and support for mental wellness in our community. Together, we can create a culture that prioritizes mental health as an essential part of overall well-being.
